About the Author

Nick Brehany is a seasoned coffee professional currently residing in the picturesque landscape of rural Wisconsin. His journey in the world of coffee began back in 2014 in north-central Indiana, where he first served as a barista at several local cafes. Nick’s passion for understanding the intricacies of coffee consumption and service quickly propelled him into the roles of coffee roaster and green buyer.

Nick’s career took a significant turn when he assumed the role of Director of Coffee for a forward-thinking coffee roasting business, specializing in organically-cultivated smallholder-farmed coffee. With a focus on sustainable practices, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s commitment to quality and ethical sourcing.

In the last three years, Nick’s desire for a greater understanding of the people behind coffee has taken him across the globe directly to Guatemala, Colombia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Peru. These travels have not only deepened his knowledge of coffee cultivation but also allowed him to build meaningful and reciprocal partnerships with individual farmers and coffee-growing organizations.

Integrating his diverse experiences, Nick advocates for a human-focused approach to specialty coffee, driven by his commitment to fostering deep, personal connections with individual farmers and coffee-growing organizations.

This blog is dedicated to the people behind coffee and their journeys of resilience and autonomy.
