After nearly a decade in the field as a coffee professional, I believe it’s time to speak to the unseen sides of the industry.
I thoroughly believe introductions should be brief. There are basically two reasons why I have chosen to begin writing about coffee:
- I’ve been asked numerous times by friends, family, and acquaintances to start writing.
- I genuinely think there is a lack of observation and reporting about the hidden and unseen parts of the industry.
The first point needs no further explanation; people are curious about coffee. We all drink it and thoroughly enjoy it, and I know that there are a lot of folks who want to know more about it: Where does coffee come from? How do you brew it correctly? What am I supposed to taste when I brew coffee? The questions go on and on, and I’m happy to begin expressing some of my own opinions.
That being said, it’s the second point that’s really motivating me to begin this project. Speaking quite frankly, there’s a lot of stuff in the coffee industry that doesn’t get talked about-especially regarding what happens at the farm level. I’m just one person, but I would like to share my own observations and questions. If nothing else, I’d like to give you a chance to see what I see through my photos and writing.
I’d like to invite you on this journey with me. You may learn that your morning cup of coffee is part of a much larger story.
I haven’t decided yet what my first post will be about, but at least you got an introduction.
